Florida Gators track and field claims All-Almerican awards, readies for outdoor season

SBnation.com

While the indoor track and field season failed to live up to the expectations they set for themselves, both the men's and women's Florida Gators track and field teams are ready to go for the start of the outdoor season. The men's team will be looking to repeat as NCAA champions, while the women's team will be looking for yet another respectable overall finish.

In finishing up with the indoor season, the Gators earned 24 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association All-American nominations. As noted in the list you can view here, courtesy of GatorZone, the Gators were the only team in the country that produced two-time first-team members. They had three of them in Marquis Dendy, Najee Glass and Dedric Dukes.

As for the breakdown, the men's team had 14 total All-Americans, 13 of which were first-team members. The women's team on the other hand, laid claim to 10 All-Americans with 6 on the first-team. In case you were wondering, yes, the relay teams count as individual members.

Also post-indoor season, The Bowerman watch list is updated. The Bowerman award is given to the top athlete in track and field and is its sport's Heisman trophy. On this updated list, Eddie Lovett makes an appearance with holdover Marquis Dendy in what makes for Lovett's debut on such a list. I'm sure one of them will be a finalist for the award, as always seems to happen.

The outdoor season begins for the Gators this weekend, on March 22nd and 23rd with the UCF Invite and the FSU Relays.
