According to a release from the University of Kentucky, Wildcat center Nerlens Noel will have surgery tomorrow on his torn ACL in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Famed Dr. James Andrews will perform the operation:
"After talking with my family, I decided to schedule my surgery over spring break so I wouldn't miss as much class," Noel said. "I wish all my teammates luck in the SEC Tournament and look forward to getting back to Lexington as soon as I can to begin my rehab and finish my school work."
UK Executive Associate Athletic Director DeWayne Peevy added:
"Due to the unique timetable for Nerlens' recovery period in regards to the NBA Draft deadline, the University of Kentucky and Noel's family thought it was in his best interest to have his surgery performed by Dr. Andrews in Florida. Being one of the few surgeons that NBA franchises use regularly, Dr. Andrews' involvement will allow the NBA personnel to have the most updated post-surgery information available in regards to Nerlens' medical condition."
Certainly the entirety of the Big Blue Nation wishes Nerlens the best of luck as he undergoes surgery tomorrow and through his months of rehab.

There are NCAA restrictions on the medical staff and administration at UK communicating with NBA franchises and personnel. It’s kind of interesting that they are looking at this with a careful eye on maintaining Nerlens’ eligibility just in case he should decide to stay another year or more at UK.
I think there is a lot to like in the way this is being handled. Calipari and his staff are looking out for this kid in every possible way, with the full backing of UK Athletics. It really makes me feel good about what the school is doing.
Good luck, Nerlens. Get well soon.
