Zeller, Oladipo named first team All Big Ten.

By John M (The Crimson Quarry)

Neither of Indiana's top candidates earned the Big Ten's player of the year award, but both Cody Zeller and Victor Oladipo were named first team All Big Ten by both the coaches and the media. Oladipo also was named defensive player of the year by the media (the coaches make no such selection) and Will Sheehey was named the league's sixth man of the year (also by the media with no corresponding vote by the coaches). Christian Watford was named to the third team by both the media and the coaches, while Jordan Hulls (both) and Yogi Ferrell (coaches) were honorable mention. Ferrell also made the all-freshman team (media only).

Michigan's Trey Burke won the Big Ten player of the year award, and deserved it. Last year, I pushed back pretty hard against his split of the freshman of the year award with Cody Zeller, but in the SB Nation polling I voted for Burke, much as I would have preferred to pull the lever for Victor or Cody. I'll post my ballot and discuss it tomorrow.

And, yeah, Bo Ryan's awful final week didn't cost him the coach of the year award. Whatever.
