The Miami Valley’s worst eyesore may be cleaned up under a plan to wipe out a million-dollar debt now owed in back taxes.

The focus of the project is an old building that once housed the Dayton Executive Hotel at Interstate 75 and Needmore Road. Soon after its closure in 2006, the hotel was covered in graffiti and became a hot spot for problems with vagrants.

Its designation as “The Worst Eyesore” came after a recent survey of WHIO-TV viewers via Facebook.

Kris McClintick, Harrison Township Assistant Administrator, said the plan is to eliminate the tax liability and the put the property into the hands of a new developer. “Not only is it an eyesore, it’s a drag on the economy,” McClintick said.

The old hotel site is seen by an estimated 100,000 daily commuters passing by on I-75 just north of the Dayton city limits.

The developer is the Garrett Company of Lexington, Kentucky. Although the company has yet to take ownership of the property, they have hired workers to begin clearing out the site in preparation for demolition next year.

Possible uses of the property include a new hotel. The site is one mile from the racino planned for Needmore Road at Wagner Ford Road.
