Pancakes mixed with country ham, corn and parley and then topped with maple syrup and baked beans might not seem tasty, but tasty they are.

Might tasty.

“Savory Pancakes” ($7) is one of several unique menu items served at Clayton’s Urban Harvest Restaurant and Catering, 8331 N. Main St. in the Randolph Plaza.

The sweet and, well, savory pancakes are on the Saturday brunch menu, as is Goetta ($7), a Cincinnati staple that includes pork and oats.

The regular lunch menu also has several combinations you don’t find everywhere - fried green tomatoes and cucumbers, bacon wrapped hot dogs, turkey pot pie, fried chicken livers and the Garden Harvest Press.

The press is “roasted zucchini, yellow squash and red bell peppers stacked with provolone cheese and topped with garden herb pesto on toasted bread.”

Staffers said Savory Pancakes were the brainchild of chef-owner Matthew DeAngulo. They didn’t know how he came up with them.

DeAngulo was the founding chef at Olive restaurant in Dayton. He opened Urban Harvest in November.

The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays. It focuses on “Midwestern casual food” and emphasises local fresh ingredients.

What do you think? Would you give pancakes topped with baked beans a try? What is the strangest food combination you have come across.
