RICHMOND —
Three college students were struck by a train in Richmond early Friday morning, killing one and injuring two others.
Just after 1 a.m. Friday, Richmond police responded to the area of North 8th and E streets on the report of several people struck by a train. Therese Heymann, 21, of Burlingame, Calif., was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Two others, a male and a female, were also injured. One was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, and a second person was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital in the Indianapolis area, according to reports.
A post on the Earlham College website states classes are canceled today after crash. The post identifies the injured students as sophomore Lenore Edwards and senior Graham Nissen.
A fourth male was with the group and witnessed the crash, but was not injured. Police said they have not been able to talk to him effectively.
