BEAVERCREEK —

The search for a suspect continued on Sunday after Beavercreek police found five pop-bottle bombs in Oakbrook Chase Estates.

Three of the makeshift explosive devices, constructed out of plastic beverage containers and household chemicals, had been detonated by the time officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Oakbrook Boulevard around 1:33 a.m. on Saturday after a neighbor reported hearing shots fired, police said.

“Some of the bottles that were collected as evidence are going to be sent to the Miami Valley Regional Crime Lab in Dayton to be processed for fingerprints,” said Sgt. Scott Molnar of the Beavercreek Police Department.

The Dayton Bomb Squad also responded to the scene to handle the remaining bottle bombs that had not been detonated.

Neither injuries nor property damage were reported.

The bottle bombs found on Oakbrook Boulevard over the weekend were the most recent ones located in the area since Dec. 13. Beavercreek police have found several bottle bombs after responding to multiple calls on Wedgewood Drive within the last two months.

“It’s becoming a nuisance,” Molnar said. “While the bombs themselves are not overly dangerous, there’s still the risk of injury to the individual setting them off.”

Some Oakbrook Chase Estates residents were unaware that anything had happened until after police arrived on the scene.

“It’s pretty shocking because our neighborhood is pretty quiet,” said Creighton Miller Jr., a 40-year-old resident of Oakbrook Chase Estates whose house is near the location where police found the bottle bombs.

Marianne Pohlmann, 44, was asleep when the bottle bombs were detonated, but was worried that the incidents would escalate into more serious crimes that could result in small children or animals being harmed or property damage.

“I think it’s getting to an alarming state,” Pohlmann said.

Anyone with information on the pop-bottle bombs should call the Beavercreek Police Department tips line at (937) 320-7393.
