Biden tells Ohio auto workers industry will thrive

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- Vice President Joe Biden has told auto workers in Toledo that the U.S. auto industry's turnaround in the last year isn't a temporary change.

Biden says the auto industry has survived a tough time and he expects it to thrive in coming years.

His trip yesterday to a Chrysler assembly plant in Toledo comes less than a week after General Motors announced plans to return to the stock market this year.

Biden says he's pleased by the move, but he's not sure when the government will end its ownership of the automaker.

The government now owns about 61 percent of GM that it got in exchange for giving the company $50 billion in survival aid last year.
