Investigators are trying to piece together clues to identify a body located in the ditch.

At 3:48 p.m. Sunday, Wayne County deputies were dispatched on a report of a possible body on North Centerville Road, just north of West East Oler Road.

Upon arrival, deputies found a deceased body in the ditch on the side of the road.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Indiana State Police, Wayne County Coroners Office and the Williamsburg Fire Department.

The body was taken into custody by the Wayne County Coroner’s Office. A forensic autopsy is scheduled today.

The autopsy will assist investigators in determining the sex of the victim, the manner of death and a possible identity, according to the release.

The case is considered an active criminal investigation.
