KETTERING —

Fire crews are trying to pinpoint the cause of a blaze Tuesday that broke out in the basement of a home in the 1200 block of Southlyn Drive.

Crews dispatched to 1265 Southlyn at about 4 p.m. on a report of a working structure fire found a fire in the basement and the lone occupant outside, Kettering Assistant Fire Chief Tom Butts said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Butts said, but the fire department does not suspect anything suspicious about what occurred.

Butts said he could not immediately estimate a dollar amount for the damage, but he said he assumed there was a large amount of smoke damage in the home, described as a single-story dwelling.
