ARCANUM —
A fire in a small shed where maple syrup was being cooked Friday night destroyed the structure and everything inside it.
Arcanum Fire Chief Kurt Troutwine said the fire started in the chimney where a wood stove was also being used to keep the man inside warm. He was not identified by name.
Crews were called to a property in the 800 block of Arcanum-Ithaca Road at about 9:40 p.m. on a report of a fully involved barn fire.
There were no injuries, the chief said, but the shed was a total loss. Troutwine estimated the money damage at $30,000.
