The presence of a paramedic proved providential for an 8-year-old girl who was revived Friday night after she was found under water at a hotel pool.

The paramedic, who has asked not to be identified by name, performed rescue breaths on the girl and likely saved her life. He was believed to be a guest.

The girl, who was supposed to be watched by a 16-year-old cousin, was left unattended and was found by other hotel guests, Butler Twp. police Sgt. Todd Stanley said.

“Thank goodness they didn’t lose their child,” he said.

Butler Twp. police, fire and rescue units were dispatched to the Drury Inn & Suites North, 6616 Miller Lane, at about 8:20 p.m. in reference to a drowning, Stanley said.

Medical and police personnel aren’t sure how long the child had been under water when she was discovered, Stanley said, but because of the unnamed paramedic, “upon our arrival, she was coherent.”

Stanley said police and medics weren’t sure who the paramedic was, and a manager at the hotel declined comment.

The child was alert and talking when she was taken to Children’s Medical Center of Dayton, the sergeant said.
