FAIRBORN —
If you live in the southern portion of the city and are seeing your faucets pump out discolored water, don’t panic.
The city’s water department is on the case and the superintendent says it could be a bit of rust but they don’t believe there is a problem.
A leak detection company is being brought in on Thursday to make sure the rust-colored water isn’t being produced by a water main break, city utilities department Superintendent Karen Hawkins said Wednesday afternoon.
“As far as we know, there is no problem with the water,” Hawkins said. “It’s an aesthetic concern. We don’t believe there is any problem” with the water.
Customers should be aware the discolored water can stain clothing, according to Hawkins and the department.
Calls began coming into the department late Tuesday night, she said, but it’s impossible to say with any certainty how many residences and businesses are affected.
Crews are checking in the affected areas for signs of leaks.
The city, through its Facebook page, asks residents who observe water running down your street or bubbling up from the ground to contact the city’s division of water and sewer at 754-3097.
Nothing in the way of a possible cause has been seen at the surface through visible inspection, Hawkins said.
Findings from the leak detection company will be posted sometime Thursday on the city’s Facebook page, Hawkins said.
