Suspects tear AC unit off to enter market

Staff Report

DAYTON —

A News Center 7 crew on the scene of a early morning burglary caught one of the suspects on tape as he fled the business.

Officers surrounded the East End Market on Huffman Avenue early Friday morning after they received a report of a burglar inside the store.

The break in occurred around 2 a.m., when the burglar removed an air condition unit from the business and entered through a hole. Police called in a K-9 unit from Riverside to help search the building. Once inside the business the K-9 tracked down the suspect, identified as Norvell D. Davis, 22, who was then arrested.

Davis is being held on suspicion of breaking and entering and possession of criminal tools.

Officers said there was visible evidence the store was searched through by someone, but nothing appeared to have been taken. There also was evidence the suspect may have drank a few beers, according to Dayton Lt. Donald Burden.

The suspect was evaluated by medical personnel for several bite marks from the K-9, but he was not removed to the hospital.

While News Center 7 crews were on the scene around 5 a.m. a second man was seen leaving the business, but was not caught by police. The second suspect is still on the loose.
