MIDDLETOWN —

The man who police say rammed his car into the front door of his house on Navaho Street last week, after firing several shots into the home, will be back in court later this week.

Billy Bair, 56, of 3014 Navaho St., will appear at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Middletown Municipal Court for a preliminary hearing. He’s charged with domestic violence, felonious assault with a weapon, using a firearm while intoxicated, resisting arrest, obstructing official business and discharging a weapon.

Bair was arraigned this past Friday and municipal court Judge Mark Wall set his bond at $38,000. He remained in Middletown’s jail on Monday.

Police said Bair allegedly got out of his vehicle, fired shots down the street at the house and then drove his Ford Contour through the door around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. There were no injuries, police said.

Minutes after Bair was taken into custody, a woman inside the home exited from the back door and met with the Rev. Lamar Farrell, pastor of Berachah Baptist Church and the Middletown police and fire department chaplain.

The front of the one-story home was severely damaged by the vehicle, and a wooden archway was destroyed. There were several tires marks in the grass.

Duke Energy was called to shut off power to the home. Middletown firefighters were at the scene because the initial call said the home may be on fire. But the smoke that was reported was from the car’s tires, police said.

Several neighbors described the couple that lived there as “quiet.”

A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, said the couple “got along pretty good” and the man who lived there gave her a few home-grown tomatoes last week. Bair had been found guilty in the past on operating a vehicle while impaired, intoxication, disorderly conduct and obstructing official business.
