PIQUA —

Two separate crashes north of Piqua on Friday night slowed traffic to a crawl and sent two people to nearby Upper Valley Medical Center.

Both accidents happened at about 8 p.m., said Trooper Jordan Monnin of the Piqua OSP. The first was on County Road 25A, near Interstate 75. Monnin said one van crashed into the back of another van at a stop light. The impact pushed that van into a third vehicle.

Two people were taken to the medical center. Several children were in two of the vans, but none was in need of hospital care, according to Monnin.

The driver of the first van will be cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance. Impaired driving is not suspected, the trooper said.

About the same time, a car reportedly drove into the back of a tanker truck on I-75 south at the Piqua exit. No one was hurt and lanes that were shut down because of the wreck have since reopened to traffic.
