SPRINGFIELD —
Fire crews battled a blaze Wednesday night at a house that neighbors believed was vacant, but may have been occupied by squatters.
Emergency crews responded at approximately 6:30 p.m. to an older home in the 500 block of Linden Avenue.
A Springfield News Sun reporter on scene confirmed that a fire had damaged one side of the home and smoke was billowing out of the windows. At 7:15 p.m., fire crews continued to put out hot spots and investigate what caused the fire.
No one was reported injured.
Neighbors said they believe the house was vacant, but that one or more persons may have been squatting there.
