DAYTON —

A man police said was intoxicated and driving recklessly early Friday morning on North Gettysburg Avenue ended up ditching his car and running on foot from police before being apprehended a few blocks away.

Dontae Dorsey, 30, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail pending charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, failure to comply with the order of an officer, obstructing official business and several traffic warrants.

A Dayton Police officer observed Dorsey take a turn very fast and hit a curb on North Gettysburg at about 2:50 a.m. today, according to a report. The car reportedly had a flat rear tire.

The officer followed the car, but before he could even put his lights and sirens on, the driver pulled over on Alicia Road, got out of the car in the middle of the street and put his hands up, according to the report.

When the officer approached Dorsey, he took off running.

Police searched for a while and believed the suspect was hiding in a small wooded area, but couldn’t locate him.

An officer then saw him walking up to a house on Elmhurst Road and detained him, according to the report.

He was covered in mud and his clothes were wet. He appeared intoxicated and smelled of alcohol, according to the reporting officer, and said he ran because he had warrants.
