SPRINGFIELD —
A 17-year-old Medway boy is in the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of arson and burglary stemming from two incidents at residences on North Park Drive late last year.
Criminal Investigations Division detectives with the sheriff’s office arrested the young man at school and took him to the detention center when he declined to talk about the incidents, the sheriff’s office said Friday.
According to the sheriff’s office, several residents called 911 the night of Nov. 22 to report a house fire. Deputies and Bethel Twp. fire crews found 217 N. Park Drive fully involved in flames.
Deputies developed a juvenile suspect after interviewing witnesses in the area.
The state fire marshal’s office also assisted in the arson investigation.
On the evening of Dec. 13, a call to the sheriff’s communication center reported a possible burglary at 214 N. Park Drive.
Deputies were able to develop a suspect from interviews with witnesses who said they saw a juvenile male leaving the address, carrying a 50-inch flat screen TV.
Detectives worked both cases together and were able to determine that the 17-year-old was the likely suspect in both incidents, according to the sheriff’s office.
What is not clear is whether the prosecutor’s office will pursue charges against the boy in adult court.
