KETTERING —

A man who forced his way into an ex-girlfriend’s apartment at gunpoint and then eluded police after a foot chase, surrendered to an officer after a brief vehicle pursuit.

Stephen Richie, 35, of Dayton, is in the Kettering City Jail on a charge of aggravated burglary and formal charges are pending approval from the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office, Kettering Officer Ron Roberts said Friday.

According to the preliminary investigation, officers were dispatched to 3965 Parliament Place, Apt. 95, at about 10:43 a.m. on a call about an unwanted ex-boyfriend.

The ex-boyfriend, identified as Richie, confronted the female resident and her male friend with a handgun. He threatened the couple, waving a handgun in the air, and forced his way into the apartment where he took several items.

An officer confronted Richie in the hallway of the apartment building. As Richie ran, he stopped to lock the security door in the hallway and made his way to his car. He was last seen driving north on abandoned railroad tracks.

An officer saw the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop but Richie failed to comply.

After the short pursuit, Richie complied by stopping his car and was arrested. Property from the victim and a newly purchased Air Soft pistol were found in Richie’s vehicle, according to police.
