DAYTON —

A head-on collision Friday that resulted from a brief pursuit involving the Ohio Highway Patrol sent a mom and daughter to a hospital and two men to jail.

Derrick Kingsman Jr., 20, and Dion Wingo Jr., 18, were taken into custody after the stolen vehicle they were in collided with a Toyota at Stanley Avenue and Brandt Pike, according to the patrol post in Dayton.

The mom and her 9-year-old daughter in the Toyota suffered non life-threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital. The girl suffered a broken pinkie, Trooper Jason Hutchison said.

The incident began at about 12:50 p.m., when troopers attempted to stop a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu on Interstate 75 for a speeding violation. A check of the license tag revealed that the sedan had been stolen from the Dayton area.

It sped off and exited onto Stanley, according to the patrol, and in an attempt to elude the pursuing trooper hit the Toyota after making a right turn onto Brandt.

Friday night, Kingsman and Wingo remained in the Montgomery County Jail.

Hutchison said the patrol will contact the county prosecutor’s office “to ensure all applicable charges are filed.”
