More than 100 animals removed from Miami Co. facility

By Breaking News Staff

MIAMI COUNTY —

As part of a six-month investigation, officials have removed more than 100 animals from a horse rescue facility in Miami County.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office issued a search warrant today to remove livestock and other animals from Serenity Horse Rescue, 5275 Ohio 201, in Bethel Twp. The Miami County Humane Society was also there.

Officials were at the rescue facility Feb. 12 to investigate but did not remove animals then.

Taken to an undisclosed location in a neighboring county were 100-150 animals, including several dozen horses, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks and peacocks. The animals are now evidence for what is being called an animal cruelty case.

No charges have been filed against the facility’s owners. The investigation is ongoing.

During the Feb. 12 investigation on the property, health department officials and a humane society representative searched after reports someone was living in a structure that is not a livable home. The property owner said they are not living in the tack room structure, though are there often. The warrants were issued after neighbors complained horses on the property were not disposed of properly upon death.

The structure on the land was condemned and owners warned not to reside there.
