Man to police: I was shot while walking home

Breaking News Team

DAYTON —

A man who showed up at Good Samaritan Hospital on Monday evening suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg told police he noticed he had been shot after he had walked home.

A Dayton police report confirmed a 26-year-old man was shot in the area of Cambridge Avenue and North Broadway Street at about 4 p.m.

The man told police he had gotten off a city bus at the intersection of Salem Avenue and Harvard Boulevard. He started walking to a friend’s house and heard “a lot” of gunshots.

The man didn’t realize he’d been hit by a bullet until he got home. Until he examined the wound, he thought he had merely scraped his knee.

He then walked to Good Samaritan Hospital.

The man said he never saw anyone; he only heard gunshots. Police were told later a teenager might be responsible.
