HARRISON TWP. —

A man accused of shooting a Navy veteran during a robbery attempt last year has now been charged with two counts of murder.

Jermaine Moore, 29, in jail since early January, is accused of shooting Scott A. Mullins, of Dayton, on Nottingham Road on Nov. 18.

Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies found Mullins in a car after several people reported hearing shots in the area. Maj. Daryl Wilson said it appeared the motive for the shooting was a robbery attempt.

Mullins was rushed to Miami Valley Hospital where he remained in critical condition until his death Feb. 19.

Since his death, the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office approved two counts of murder against Moore, who is also facing two counts each of felonious assault, aggravated robbery and having weapons as a felon. He was indicted on the new charges Monday, according to court records.

Moore has been convicted of robbery in 2000 and trafficking in marijuana in 2008.

In his obituary in February, Mullins’ family described his travels and honors while serving in the Navy and said, “He put up a strong fight to live after sustaining a gunshot wound by a convicted felon, who used an illegal firearm.”

Moore is scheduled to be in court Thursday and is set to go on trial March 25.
