DAYTON —
One man was arrested at the scene after her allegedly forced his way into an apartment on East Fourth Street Wednesday morning and beat the resident repeatedly.
Kenneth Moore, 51, is facing possible charges of abduction, aggravated burglary and possession of criminal tools. He is being held in the Montgomery County Jail.
The victim, 65, told NewsCenter 7 that he was sleeping at about 1 a.m. when a woman he knows came to his door crying saying that her mother died. He said he believes the woman is homeless and he tries to help her when he can.
He let her in and while he was talking to her he heard someone else walking up the stairs to his apartment. He approached the door to check it out and a man, identified as Moore, forced his way into the apartment.
He reportedly starting beating up the victim, hitting him 20 or 30 times, and handcuffed him. The man kept asking the victim where his money was.
The victim told the woman to call police, but she said she couldn’t find a phone. He later found his phone hidden in the apartment.
A downstairs neighbor heard the commotion and called police, who arrested Moore upon arrival.
The victim said he thinks the woman and suspect were working together, but police did not have any reason to hold her and let her go.
Moore has prior felony convictions for aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon in 2000 and receiving stolen property in 2009.
The victim suffered severe bruising to his face during the assault.
