DAYTON —

A man is behind bars after he allegedly backed a family into the corner of their Dayton home at gunpoint.

Vercie Lark, 31, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail Saturday at about 9 p.m. As of Sunday afternoon, he was facing possible felony charges of aggravated robbery, illegally possessing a firearm, a CCW violation and possession of drugs, according to jail records.

On Saturday night police responded to the 900 block of Wyoming Avenue and met with a family who said a man had forced his way into their home. A woman said she noticed the man — who was later identified as Lark — on her porch. She knew him, according to a Dayton police report, because her husband had done work on Lark’s vehicle in the past.

When she approached Lark, she said he pulled a gun and pushed her back into the house at gunpoint demanding money.

According to the woman, she was forced into the corner of a residence. Her husband, who had not been home, returned during the alleged robbery and he was also forced into a corner, according to the police report.

While the husband and wife were being held in the corner, a 15-year-old son came downstairs. He too was forced into the corner, according to the report.

Lark reportedly rooted through the house looking for items and then left the residence in a red GMC Suburban. His gun was described to police as a black revolver.

Dayton officers were asked to be on the lookout for the Suburban. While police were still speaking with the family at their home, an officer pulled over a vehicle on the 1800 block of Wyoming. Lark was inside and was taken into custody. All three members of the family eventually identified him as the man who robbed them.

According to a separate police report taken to document the traffic stop, roughly six grams of crack and almost $2,000 in cash were found on Lark. A black revolver was found inside the vehicle. According to police, Lark has previous convictions of burglary and felonious assault.
