DAYTON —
Police arrested a man on multiple felony charges Wednesday morning after discovering he had a stolen handgun in his possession.
Officers followed a car driven by Bert Watts after seeing a woman, a known prostitute according to a police incident report, get into the vehicle.
When police stopped the car on East Hillcrest Avenue the woman told them that Watts had become nervous upon seeing the police and started reaching in the backseat. She said he told her that he had, “dope and guns,” in the car.
Police looked in the backseat and found a handgun. The serial number had been scratched off, according to the report, and the gun was listed as stolen in 2010.
Watts claimed he didn’t know anything about the gun and then claimed it must belong to the woman. He said he was giving her a ride, according to the report.
Watts is facing possible charges of having weapons under disability and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle. He was also wanted on several misdemeanor traffic warrants.
