A high school student and a junior high student have been taken into custody stemming from the threats made at Tippecanoe Middle School and Tippecanoe High School.

Both have been taken to the West Central Juvenile Detention Center, according to Tipp City Sgt. Detective Chris Graham.

The junior high student, who is 14, was picked up this afternoon at the middle school. He was arrested in connection with a note on a cafeteria table that was found Wednesday morning.

The high school student, who is 15, was taken into custody at the police station after interviews police conducted with students led them to the high school. He was taken into custody stemming from a written threat found at the high school a week ago Wednesday.

The boys know each other, but it is unclear whether the threats were done individually or as part of a program with other students, Graham said.

Superintendent John Kronour said school officials were able to track the note found in the cafeteria to a student who was at the table during an end-of-the-day study hall Tuesday.

“We know who did it,” Kronour said, noting that at the time, “I can’t say a whole lot.”

An email sent to middle school parents at 10:45 a.m. said the student who wrote the note admitted to the act and was arrested.

Authorities don’t know if the student was involved in a Tuesday morning threat found on a boys’ restroom stall at the middle school. The school was evacuated and checked by police and dogs from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Police continue to investigate the threats there and at the high school, where written threats were received three consecutive days, Feb. 13-15.

Students at both schools are under new restroom procedures. Students have to sign in and out of class to use the restrooms, which are closed in between classes, Kronour said. Only certain restrooms are open to allow for better monitoring.

Students arriving at the middle school today were met by staff and police, who checked backpacks.

A community meeting to discuss school safety and answer questions is being held at 7:30 p.m. today at the L.T. Ball school on North Hyatt Street.
