DIXON TWP., Preble County —

A 36-year-old woman was arrested Monday night on charges accusing her of having and storing materials to manufacture methamphetamine at her farmhouse near the Indiana border.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody at her home in the 2000 block of Tony Lybrook Road sometime after 6 p.m., Preble County Sheriff Michael Simpson said.

Deputies, firefighters from Gasper Twp. and agents with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation found at least four propane tanks containing suspected meth-making chemicals in a barn on the property, which is in an isolated area of the county, Simpson told News Center 7’s Kate Bartley.

All of the materials authorities believe were being used to make meth were in the barn and the woman’s SUV, said the sheriff, who noted that authorities believed she was in the process of trying to move the tanks.

Authorities aren’t saying what led them to the small, two-story wood frame home, but Simpson told Bartley that the decision to move on the address was based on information that was provided to authorities on Monday.

A male teenager identified as the woman’s son was at the address at the time of the arrest, but he was not taken into custody. Simpson said authorities don’t believe the young man is involved.

Authorities were on scene late Monday night, trying to neutralize the tanks because of the fumes that could be released from them would be harmful to inhale, Simpson said.
