Xenia student arrested, accused of making threat to school

Two Springboro teens charged with disorderly conducted after making Facebook posts

By Staff

Xenia police arrested a juvenile who they said threatened to commit violence at Xenia High School Monday via a Facebook post.

The high school student, whose age and identity was not released, was taken into custody on a probation violation, according to Xenia police Sgt. Peter Wiza.

Wiza said the juvenile referred to a threat of violence that a student at the Greene County Career Center made last week on a bathroom wall, then claimed he was going to commit violence at Xenia H.S.

Xenia Community Schools Superintendent Deborah Piotrowski said numerous individuals contacted school officials after the post was discovered Monday afternoon. Piotrowski said the school principal took immediate action, sending a message to parents about the situation.

“The student who posted the threat is in custody, and will be subject to criminal and school discipline procedures,” the message said. It added that the student would not be at school on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, two 15-year-old Springboro High School students have been charged with disorderly conduct as a result of a Facebook posting Friday night that implied that the recent school shootings in Newtown, Conn., could also happen in Springboro.

Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell said the Springboro students were not arrested but were charged after one student posted a message on the site, and the other commented in response.

The Springboro students are not permitted on school property, pending the outcome of the charges.

Fornshell said he would not characterize the boys’ actions as credible threats – which are viewed as having the intent and the opportunity to engage in threatening or violent conduct – but one that could cause alarm and panic.
