HUBER HEIGHTS —
The man wanted for a deadly shooting on Salem Avenue last month has been captured by the U.S. Marshals Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team.
Deputy U.S. Marshal Nathan Lupica confirmed that Levi Slaughter, 18, was taken into custody at about 3:30 p.m. Monday in Huber Heights.
Authorities got a tip that Slaughter was at an apartment on Bufort Boulevard.
"We surrounded the place and arrested him with no problems,” Lupica said.
He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail at 5:20 p.m. He is charged with felonious assault, murder and discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises. According to the Ohio Revised Code it is illegal to discharge a gun on a public roadway. All three charges are felonies.
A warrant was issued for Slaughter’s arrest on Jan. 24. Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies say he is the man responsible for the death of Douglas Byrd, 30.
Byrd was found dead in the middle of the street on Jan. 17. He had been shot several times.
Slaughter's bail has not been set. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning.
