Michael Minnich, 45

PIQUA —

A man was arrested late Saturday night after leading police on a pursuit through downtown Piqua, which had speeds topping 60 mph in a 35 mph speed zone, according to police.

Michael Minnich, 45, was arrested and booked into the Miami County Jail on multiple charges, including OVI and a felony charge of fleeing and alluding.

Officers attempted to pull over Minnich in the area of Wayne and Wood streets around 10:45 p.m., but Minnich sped off, Piqua Lt. Bill Collins said. Minnich led police through several neighborhood streets before fleeing north on Ohio 66, Collins said.

Police were able to stop Minnich after he turned onto Cherry Street, Collins said. Minnich was stopped near the intersection of Cherry Street and Nicklin Avenue.

In addition to Minnich, four other people were inside the pickup truck, and one of them was inside the bed of the truck during the pursuit, Collins said. All of the other occupants of the vehicle were released at the scene.

The case remains under investigation by the Piqua Police Department.
