Southbound I-75 in Downtown Dayton is very slow because of a jackknifed semi at Monument Avenue.

DAYTON, Ohio —

Traffic was moving slowly this morning on southbound Interstate 75 at the Monument Avenue bridge after a semi-tractor trailer jackknifed.

The driver of the semi told authorities he was driving in the middle lane when another vehicle cut him off. He said when he swerved to avoid hitting the car, he lost control of the semi and went into a concrete barrier on the right side of the highway.

If the driver would have gone just 20 feet further, he would have been dangling over Riverview Avenue, according to reports.

The truck also spilled a diesel fuel-oil combination onto the pavement. Hazardous materials crews are also on the scene.

The semi was hauling about 12,000 pounds of auto parts out of Tipp City, police said. The driver, 62, of Ludlow Falls, will be cited with failure to control.
