FAIRBORN —
A woman and her two children were able to avoid injury in a crash on Wiley Street, which ended with a vehicle on its top and a fence line damaged early Wednesday morning, police said.
Officers received calls of a vehicle overturned and people possibly trapped inside around 12:30 a.m., Fairborn Sgt. Paul Hicks said. When emergency crews arrived on scene the mother and one of the children had crawled out of the vehicle, the other child was still strapped inside the car, Hicks said.
Hicks estimated one of the children to be around six or seven years old, the other child was believed to be under the age of four, since he was still in a car seat.
The mother, identified as Melissa Betts, 31 of Fairborn, was driving on Wiley Street, when she attempted to make a turn and took the turn too wide. The car ended up striking a ditch, overturning the car, according to Hicks.
Hicks said Betts was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, possession of drugs and two counts of child endangering.
The children were picked up from the scene by other family and friends.
