DAYTON, Ohio —

Police in Dayton said an officer shot two pit bulls and arrested one man during a drug raid Monday.

Dayton police conducted an investigation after receiving information that led them to believe that drug sales were taking place at 507 Hulbert St., according to a police report. Police discovered twin brothers, Kerry and Terry Pugh, were at the residence at the time of the raid.

When officers tried to enter the home they were met by two pit bulls that were in attack mode. An attempt to scare the dogs with a Taser was unsuccessful. Police said one of the officers used a sub machine gun and shot both dogs multiple times.

The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center responded and picked up the dogs, which were severely injured, Director of the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center Mark Kumpf.

The dogs were euthanized because of their injuries, Kumpf said. The brothers were both handcuffed on the front lawn of the home and taken into custody while police continued to conduct their search, according to the report.

Officers seized a little more than six grams of crack cocaine, police said.

After questioning, it was discovered that Terry Pugh is the only one who resides at the Hulbert home. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, according to the report.
