Arrest made in Preble County meth bust

EATON —

About two weeks after discovering a sizable methamphetamine lab in a barn, Preble County authorities have made an arrest.

Preble County sheriff’s deputies responded to 2968 Eaton Gettysburg Road on Wednesday morning after receiving a call about a suspicious vehicle on the property.

That is the address where on Oct. 5, the property owner discovered a barn filled with equipment for making methamphetamine. At that time, Sheriff Mike Simpson said a renter was evicted from the property within the past week.

On Wednesday, the responding deputy found that former resident exiting the barn and attempted to detain him.

The suspect, Jerry A. Worley, 54, swung at the deputy and then fled on foot, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office released Thursday.

Worley was captured, but only after deputies used Mace and a Taser.

Deputies located evidence of methamphetamine manufacturing in the suspect’s vehicle including “tubing, a plastic bottle, several glass jars that contained waste products from the manufacturing process that tested positive for anhydrous ammonia, and a small amount of methamphetamine,” according to the release.

Worley is in the Preble County Jail and is facing charges of possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, theft, breaking and entering, resisting arrest, assault on a police officer and assembly or possession of chemicals to manufacture drugs.
