The new owners of The Beach water park are now planning $5 million in renovations and new features before the park reopens this May.
The Beach, an Adventure Landing park, had previously announced $1 million in renovations, according to parent company Adventure Holdings LLC.
A new kids interactive play area will double the size of what was previously planned for the Warren County attraction, said Ralph Vilardo, Jr., the park’s general manager.
The Beach also will get an interactive play structure featuring a dunking bucket, spray ground and slides.
A revamped activity zone will include a water basketball play area and floating-but-anchored lily pads for children to swim around and climb on.
The park also will reconfigure and eventually rename the Volcanic Panic waterslide to enhance the riding experience, Vilardo said.
“It becomes a better thrill ride with additional apex turns and dips throughout the ride,” he said.
Plans are being finalized for a reconfiguration of Hidden Rapids, an inner tube ride that meanders through the woods, taking riders through multiple drops, dips and splash pools.
The park also is remodeling additional slides that needing improvement and adding a new hydrotube ride that’s an encapsulated and empties out into 40 inches of water.
Renovations also will include tripling the amount of shade structures throughout the attraction and adding 50 new cabanas, Vilardo said.
The remainder of the park’s existing rides, including the wave pool, all will be renovated, Vilardo said.
Other interior upgrades throughout the park will include the park’s entryway, an expanded arcade and completely remodeled restaurants and bathrooms.
The park’s new management will honor all season passes that weren’t used last year when the park’s former owners announced on March 9 that The Beach Waterpark would not open for the season.
“It was important for us to honor season passes from 2012 to revive everyone’s trust and enjoyment of The Beach,” said Hank Woodburn, president and owner of Adventure Landing.
Based in Jacksonville, Fla., Adventure Holdings owns and operates 18 family entertainment centers nationwide including ones in Florida, North Carolina, New York and Texas.
Adding to the company’s parks was “a true thrill,” Woodburn said.
“We started with $1 million in renovations, and then just kept going until the project expanded to $5 million in renovations,” Woodburn said. “Every team member involved has a personal passion about this park.”
Along with the renovations and new additions, The Beach will be hiring 400 seasonal workers. Job fairs are scheduled for March 9 and April 6. To apply, visit www.thebeachwaterpark.com/job-application.aspx.
