KETTERING —

A man hit and pinned under an RTA bus Sunday night is listed in stable condition today.

Police said the victim, identified as Paterne Uwizera, 19, remains at Miami Valley Hospital today after he was struck by the bus while riding his bike on Woodman Drive around 6:20 p.m. Sunday.

Kettering fire and rescue crews were called to the intersection of Woodman Drive and Forrer Blvd on a report of a pedestrian strike. Upon arrival, crews found the victim pinned under the bus. They called for heavy equipment to lift the vehicle. Careflight was requested, but could not fly because of the weather.

Police said Uwizera was traveling north in the cross walk of Woodman Drive. As the bus was making a left turn to go west on Forrer Blvd., the bus and bicyclist collided in the cross walk. The bicyclist was dragged about 100 feet from the cross walk.

He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with serious head and internal injuries. Investigators said he was conscious while he was trapped.

Officers believed weather was a factor, citing poor visibility with the blowing wind and rain.

The intersection was closed for several hours during the investigation.

Police will consult with the legal department to see if any charges should be filed.
