Staff Report
DAYTON —
Alcohol, speed and possibly the weather are being investigated as factors in an accident Monday night that involved a car that hit two parked vehicles before slamming into a house.
Police and fire/rescue units were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of Huffman Avenue at about 8 p.m. on a report of a car into a house, Dayton Lt. Wendy Stiver said. Police found a black Chevrolet Impala up against the house, its driver unconscious on the passenger seat.
Witnesses said the car, driven by a man believed to be 31 years old, was headed east at high speed when the man apparently lost control of the vehicle, hit a white Ford that was parked, pushed that vehicle into a parked pickup truck, then smashed into the house, Stiver said.
Medics removed the driver and took him to Miami Valley Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening, Stiver said. The other two vehicles were unoccupied.
No one in the house was reported to be injured.
The accident is being investigated as an alcohol-related incident because police and medics noticed a strong odor of alcohol on the man, Stiver said.
Alcohol and speed were definite factors in the accident, Stiver said.
A brief but heavy rain visited the area about the time of the crash, and Stiver said weather also could be a contributing factor because the precipitation can push oil and lubricants up through the street and cause slick conditions.
