Christmas gifts, military medals stolen from house

By Andy Sedlak

DAYTON —

A Dayton couple told police Friday afternoon their house was broken into and between 25 and 30 wrapped Christmas gifts were stolen along with the man’s military medals earned through his service as a submariner.

According to a Dayton police report, officers around 7 p.m. responded to the burglary, which was on the 800 block of Kolping Avenue. The man and woman told police their house had been ransacked.

Among the items missing were:

  • 25 to 30 Christmas presents
  • Prescription drugs, including Hydrocodone, Naproxen and Doxipin
  • Several necklaces and four watches
  • Vintage and foreign coins
  • A custom made gold necklace containing nine birthstones and worth approximately $2,000
  • Military medals from the man’s service as a submariner
  • Xbox 360 gaming system and video games
  • Nook tablet

According to Dayton police, close to $6,000 in items were reported missing. The man and woman said they left their residence Friday morning around 8 a.m. All of the windows and doors to the house were locked at the time. Police noted in their report that it appeared entry was made into the house through a back door that accessed a kitchen from the west side of the residence through an attached sun room.

In the living room, a Christmas tree was toppled over. Glass ornaments were broken and shards of glass were scattered across the floor, according to police.

Police believed those involved with the burglary likely left the residence the same way the entered it.

Anyone with any information about the burglary is asked to contact Dayton police.
