WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP —

A fire at a Washington Township storage facility destroyed a classic car Sunday afternoon.

Around 5:10pm, Washington Township dispatch reported a fire at Centerville Storage located at the intersection of Thomas Paine Parkway at Bigger Road.

When the first responders arrived, they reported that it may be an automobile engine. As the initial search continued, firefighters confirmed it was a single storage unit with a vehicle on fire.

News Center 7 was on-scene and confirmed with fire crews that the vehicle was a classic Chevrolet Chevelle being moved into storage for the winter. The owner of the car who was on-scene had told firefighters that he invested approximately $30,000.00 dollars to fully restore the car, which is now a total ruin.

The fire was put out around 5:22pm and did not spread to adjacent units, but they may have sustained some smoke and water damage.

Fire crews are investigating the cause of the fire.
