Driver charged in August motorcycle fatality

NEW CARLISLE —

The driver of a pickup truck that struck and killed a motorcyclist has been charged with vehicular manslaughter.

James M. Dilley, 18, is also charged with failure to yield after the Aug. 8 crash at the interesection of Jefferson and Smith Street in New Carlisle.

Police said Dilley struck Joseph A. Christmas, 19, when he turned onto Smith Street from Jefferson Street. Christmas died at the hospital after the crash.

Police said Christmas was not wearing a helmet.

Blood and urine tests did not indicate the presence of alchol and drugs. The case was presented to the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office, where the charges were decided.

Dilley will be arraigned at 11 a.m. Oct. 12 in municipal court.
