BATH TWP., Montgomery County —

Fire crews are trying to determine what caused a massive fire at a mobile home Tuesday afternoon on East Kitridge Road at Apex Street.

According to a preliminary investigation, no one was home but firefighters late Tuesday afternoon did discover the remains of what was believed to be a house pet.

There were no human injuries from the fire, which drew crews from Huber Heights, Fairborn and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Fire crews, dispatched on the call at about 3:20 p.m., were able to contain the fire to the one trailer and keep flames from spreading to neighboring residences. Early fears that people were trapped inside were unfounded, as the homeowner showed up at the scene not long after firefighters arrived.

Tuesday evening, firefighters doused hot spots found in the smoldering rubble and said no preliminary cause had been determined but the home and its contents were deemed a total loss. No dollar estimate on the loss has been given.

At about 10 p.m., firefighters had to return to the scene for a second time to deal with hot spots that were reigniting.

Arrangements were being made to accommodate the family that lived in the trailer.
