Funeral set for area soldier killed in Afghanistan

LEBANON —

Funeral arrangements have been set for a Lebanon soldier who was killed in action in Afghanistan earlier this week.

Sgt. First Class Bobby Lee Estle was shot in the stomach and killed Sunday when his unit was attacked with small arms fire in the Wardak Province of Afghanistan, according to Army reports.

Estle’s body will arrive at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

A public visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Cornerstone Church of God, 1004 Columbus Ave., in Lebanon.

A funeral service will be held at the same place on 11 a.m. Tuesday. Estle will be laid to rest in the Deerfield Cemetery on Shawhan Road in South Lebanon. Funeral arranements are being handled by the Stine Kilburn Funeral Home.

Estle was a 1992 graduate of the Warren County Career Center. Estle served in the military for 20 years and was on his fourth tour of duty. He served two tours in Iraq and two in Afghanistan. He was schuedled to return home on Oct. 22.

Estle is survived by his wife Monica, and three children, J.R. Marston, 20, Anthony Estle, 19, and Marieanna Estle, 12, a seventh grader at Lebanon Junior High School; his parents Robert and Debra Howard; and brother Rob Howard.

Also killed was Private First Class Jose Belmontes, 28, of La Verne, Calif. Both were with the 630th Engineer Company, 7th Engineer Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade.
