DAYTON —

A lone gunman robbed a Family Dollar store Thursday night and got away on foot, police said.

Police were dispatched to the store, 1028 North Gettysburg Ave., at about 8 p.m. on a report of an armed robbery.

According to the Dayton police report obtained Friday morning, the suspect grabbed a box of Cracker Jacks and got in line. When it was his turn, he asked how much the Jacks were and the clerk told him $1.25.

Police said as the clerk bagged the Cracker Jacks the suspect put his hand around what appeared to be a gun in his pocket. He then demanded money and the clerk complied, giving him all the money in the drawer plus what was in the safe, believed to be at least $600, according to the report.

the suspect was described as a black male in his late 40s or early 50s with a salt-and-pepper goatee. About 6 feet, 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a royal blue knit winter cap, a tan hooded sweatshirt with a shirt underneath and blue jeans.
