Teen helps family from burning mobile home

Staff Report

RIVERSIDE —

A teen ran across the street and banged on a neighbors door to ask for help, after she found flames destroying her family’s laundry room.

Candace Biscel, 17, woke her brother early Friday morning when she smelled something burning. They soon discovered flames in the rear of their mobile home, 3318 Nina V Lane, around 12:15 a.m.

Firefighters from Riverside, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Huber Heights and Dayton responded to the scene to help battle the early morning fire at the McMahan’s Mobile Home Park.

John Smith was inside his home, 3319 Nina V Lane, when Bischel came rushing to his door asking for help. Once he ran outside, Smith said he saw flames shooting through the roof and back side of the mobile home. Smith grabbed a small fire extinguisher and attempted to put the fire out, but the flames spread quickly, he said.

Bischel was able to rescue everyone from the burning mobile home and no injuries were reported. Neighbors also evacuated their mobile home as a precaution.

The extent of the damage to the house was not immediately available.

Bischel said neighbors offered to assist the family in their recovery following the fire.
