Hours OK’d for West Liberty auxiliary police

WEST LIBERTY —

A law to restrict the number of hours a West Liberty Village auxiliary officer may work has been suspended.

Hours were limited to 96 hours per week, and the police chief was turning in patrol work hours for twice that number in order to pay officers for the hours they were working.

The chief said he was having trouble filling shifts because of capping hours, and not all officers were getting paid for their shifts.

The sheriff can now pay for all hours worked, officials said.
