K99.1FM radiothon raises $201,183 for Dayton Children’s

The 15th annual K99.1FM Cares for Kids Radiothon, broadcast live on K99.1FM for three days this week, raised $201,183, to provide improved pediatric health care to infants, children and teens throughout the region, according to Nancy Wilson of K99.1FM.

Wilson and Frye Guy from K99.1FM’s The Breakfast Club broadcast from the Dayton Children’s Medical Center lobby from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, through Wednesday, Nov. 21. The hosts spoke with patients and families, and asked listeners to call in and make a contribution.

“It once again proves how giving folks here in the Miami Valley have been when they are constantly inundated by worthy charities seeking help,” Wilson said of this year’s radiothon. “They understand that Dayton Children’s is their own hospital that takes care of our kids. Once again, they stepped up and showed their appreciation and made donations to the hospital.”

Since K99.1FM started airing the radiothon in 1998, the station has raised more than $2 million for Dayton Children’s. Funds raised have gone toward two pediatric mobile intensive care units, special monitors for the Almost Home Unit, a pre/post-op room in the surgery area and medical equipment in other patient care areas, according to Dayton Children’s.

“We’re just overwhelmed by the support from the community and the listeners calling in,” said Debbie Butner, Children’s Miracle Network manager at Dayton Children’s. “It’s amazing to see everything come together and what the K99.1 listeners do in support of Dayton Children’s. (The money) stays right here, and it goes to support the 290,000 kids who we support each year. We are so grateful to have Cox Media Group and K99.1 continue to do this radiothon.”
