DAYTON —
Daytonpolice have a man in custody that they believe is responsible for robbing the downtown Chase Bank branch on Thursday.
Lawrence Twitty, 33, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail at 11:30 a.m. today. Police said he turned himself in after police said they put pressure on his friends and family during the investigation.
He was convicted of theft and sentenced to 11 months in prison for robbing the same bank in April of last year. In that instance he passed a note to a teller demanding money and was seen by witnesses throwing his Chicago Bulls hat and red hooded sweatshirt in the trash.
Thursday morning, a man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with tattoos on his face robbed the bank, in the Kettering Tower at 40 N. Main St.
“We know now that he is a repeat offender,” said Dayton Sgt. Rhonda Williams. “It makes us feel like the community is safer having him locked up.”
Twitty is being held without bond pending a charge of felony robbery. He will have an initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon.
