DAYTON —
A man who took off running while police were investigating the sound of a gunshot on North Main Street was taken into custody early Saturday morning.
Deonte Archie, 25, was arrested pending a charge of obstructing official business at about 1 a.m.
Police were on North Main and heard a shot fired nearby. As they investigated they saw three people walking northbound.
Officers pulled up their cruiser with lights and sirens on to stop the individuals. They ordered them all to stop and show their hands. According to a Dayton Police incident report, one man and one woman complied, but the other man took off running.
Police gave chase in their car and then on foot. They were able to subdue Archie and get him in handcuffs a few blocks away.
He didn’t have a gun and said he heard the shot, but didn’t see anything, according to the report.
Archie told police he ran because he thought there was a warrant out for his arrest. There wasn’t.
The other two people left the area while police chased Archie.
